Missing dogs in abuse case handed over to SPA
Four dogs belonging to a young couple from Magog who face potential charges of animal cruelty have been surrendered to the SPA.
According to Memphrémagog Police (RPM) spokesperson Lt. Sylvain Guay, intense media interest in the case encouraged the suspect couple to hand over four surviving animals to the SPA at the end of the day Wednesday.
"The RPM investigator accompanied our SPA partner to recover the animals and check the status of their health," he said. "They are emaciated and will have to undergo an examination by the SPA. The report will be submitted to the authorities for possible indictments. The quick recovery of these remaining dogs leads us to believe that the couple is not keen to keep the dogs, the breed of which breed is unknown to the police.”
The police file will be handed over to the prosecutor’s office to determine if criminal charges should be laid.
The Stanley St. house where two ad pit bulls were discovered in a freezer earlier this week was heavily damaged by feces and urine in recent weeks due to the presence of dogs left alone.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Memphremagog Police force opened an investigation of animal cruelty and vandalism after the dogs were discovered. Two dead dogs were in a freezer.
