Repeat offenders nabbed for impaired driving

It was a busy weekend for Memphrémag­og Police who had to intervene in eight road accidents, including three with minor injuries. Road conditions and the presence of animals on the road were at the root of these accidents. Three arrests were also made in relation to driving while impaired, two of which occurred on the same day.

On Saturday, April 7, at around 3:00 am, a 52-year-old woman was arrested at the corner of Plage des Cantons and François-hertel streets because her erratic driving attracted police attention. After being brought to the police station, woman registered more than double the legal limit on a breath test. Her license was seized for a period of 90 days and, since it was a repeat offense, her vehicle was also seized for an equivalent period.

At around 5:20 that afternoon, police arrested of a man of 51 for the same reasons, following a tip from a citizen. The suspect was located and arrested on Stpatrice St. West in Magog. At the police station, he registered levels three times the limit on a breathalys­er. As he too was a repeat offender, his driver's license and vehicle were also seized for a period of 90 days.

Finally, around 11:15 am on Sunday, a 55-year-old woman also registered nearly three times the allowable limit after being arrested on the Georgevill­e Road. Her arrest followed a call from a citizen who had observed her erratic driving. The woman had no previous history with the law. and her vehicle was seized for a period of 30 days, while her license was suspended for 90.

The three will face charges of impaired driving. They were released on a promise to appear at a later date at the Sherbrooke courthouse.
