L’accueil Notre-dame plans $2.8 million fourth phase

- Record Staff

Magog’s Accueil Notre-dame hopes to be able to accommodate about 15 additional retirees as of 2019 thanks to a $2.8 million expansion project. According to Maurice Rancourt, the President of the not-for-profit organization that governs the home, this will be the fourth phase of development since its founding in1986.

The organization wants to add 12 to 15 additional units, which would increase the total number of beds to 75 or 78. To do this, it will demolish a neighbouring house before erecting a new three-storey building. The start of construction is expected by the end of 2018.

The public will again be asked for financial support if the plans are accepted by the Quebec Housing Corporation (SHQ), which could also subsidize a good part of the project. The organization will seek about $1.2 million from the community, but half of that figure has already been acquired.

L’accueil Notre-dame is a residence for seniors who suffer from loss of autonomy. It also has some convalescent beds, which are managed by the Memphremagog Health and Social Services Center. It is a non-profit organization, which allows it to solicit donations and government grants. Surpluses are reinvested in buildings and services.
