U de S Choeur Campus annual concert this Sunday
The Campus Choir of the Université de Sherbrooke will be holding its fourth annual concert this Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the university’s Centre Culturel. The amateur choir will perform a program under the theme "Writing on the walls", offering a varied repertoire that ranges from Edith Piaf, through Pink, Patrice Michaud, Alfa Rococo, Starmania, Willie Nelson, Janis Joplin, Queen, Game of Thrones, and more.
Under the musical direction of Marieclaude Elias, a student in the Master in Choral Direction program, the choristers will be accompanied by Charles-emmanuel L'esperance on piano and synthesizer, Dominique Massicotte on guitar, Mathieu Tarlo on bass, and Sébastien Hinse on the drums).
The performance will also allow attendees to discover or revisit the past for a few pieces through the universe of artist Josée Courtemanche, who has been practicing the art of drawing in the sand since 2014. A bewitching and poetic art form, images appear and change in real time on a large screen, accompanied perfectly by the voices to create an enveloping and mesmerizing effect.
Founded in January 2015 by Isabelle Vallée, a communications consultant at the University, the Choeur Campus has become a regular meeting place where people from all sectors and faculties can simply get away from it all. More than 110 employees, students, graduates, retirees, and teachers meet every week to share their passion for singing and music.
While their first concert was only attended by only 150 spectators, nearly 1,000 showed up for performances in 2016 and 2017. This year again, Choeur Campus is once again taking up the challenge of filling the Salle Mauriceo'bready.
Tickets for Sunday’s performance are available by writing to choeurcampus@usherbrooke.ca or by calling 514566-9118.
