The Municipality of Potton is offering, again this year, a quality summer adventure day camp program for children. The camp councillors: Alexandra Cote-lahue, Vance Cote and Aleeyah Cervinka have been having a terrific time with the children attending the camp thus far this summer. This year, Emily Hudson is the Camp Coordinator.
“As a student at Bishop’s University studying elementary education, I have a passion for working with youth as well as recreation in the outdoors,” said Hudson. “If I’m not studying, you can find me on my bike, hiking a new trail or floating down a river. I have had many previous experiences working as an animator at various camps, such as the Bishops Art Camp, Camp Massawippi as well as the Town of Sutton camp.”
This is Emily’s first year as a Coordinator in Mansonville and she hopes to gain experience as well as getting to know the Potton community. She and her team are working hard to offer a stimulating and engaging summer camp and thus far, the team feels that things are going well.
According to the Potton website, “The Potton Day Camp prides itself on providing a bilingual program for children ages 5-12. Our goal is to offer a variety of enriching, safe activities for all ability levels in an effort to build self-confidence and develop friendships through teamwork, all the while having fun! The program incorporates a healthy lifestyle message, educating campers on the benefits of eating well and getting outside and being active. Groups are separated according to age; our ratio averages 1:15 per animator/camper. For ages 5-7, our ratio averages 1:10.”
They are still taking registrations for weeks 4, 5 and 6 for the Outdoor Registrations and for the ART CAMP, August 6th-august 17th. Information in regards to the cost of the camp can be obtained by calling: 450-292-3313 ext. 228.
On July 11th 12 camp participants and the three camp councillors organized and animated a car wash to raise funds for the Missisquoi North Volunteer Centre (CABMN) Partage/share Food Bank as part of its community support initiatives. The group raised $115.00 and the campers will go and purchase food that they will then bring to representatives at the Food Bank this week to present in support of the cause and the community.
“We are extremely proud of these kids and the efforts organized by the Potton Municipal Day Camp in support of our program,” said June Peacock a member of the Partage/share committee. “This is a great initiative on the part of the organizers and it certainly speaks volumes about the compassion of these young campers.”
