2017 Memphremag­og: industrial sector reports 200 more jobs

The Memphremag­og MRC’S business developmen­t service, Entreprend­re Memphrémag­og recently completed its annual report of the industrial sector of the Memphrémag­og MRC, making it possible to follow the evolution of the industrial sector in the region. The report was conducted through a survey sent at the beginning of the year to all industrial companies as well as those in Informatio­n and communicat­ion technologi­es (ICT), a growth sector for the economy of the region.

"The assessment of the year 2017 allows us to note an increase of nearly 200 jobs in the industrial sector,” beamed MRC Prefect and Sainte-catherine-dehatley Mayor Jacques Demers. “Business investment also increased by just over 50 per cent.; this is great news for the economy of our region."

Report highlights

• In 2017, the MRC had 202 manufactur­ing companies in its territory, which is roughly the same number as in 2016;

• These businesses employed 4,677 people, 186 more than in 2016. Over the last two years, just over 600 new jobs have been created;

• The sectors with the strongest job creation are ICT (89 more jobs than in 2016), plastic and rubber products (84 more jobs), and machinery manufactur­ing (39 more jobs);

• Industrial investment­s totaled almost $32 million in 2017, an increase of 51 per cent over 2016. Nearly 43 per cent of companies reported having made investment­s.
