Sherbrooke artist coming to arts Sutton
Sherbrooke-based multi-disciplinary artist and author Johanne Bilodeau will be present at the Arts Sutton Gallery on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to give a guided tour of the current exhibition of her work.
Proudly of mixed native and European heritage, Bilodeau’s artistic approach revolves around the idea of social ecology, the restoration of natural ecosystems, and the preservation of cultural landscapes.
The exhibit L’invisible traversée finds its inspiration within the man-made landscapes of the Fjord du Saguenay in Québec. This region, well explored by the artist, will become the setting of a funeral voyage during which the artist will be the guide. The water of the fjord will be the last resting place of a close parent and the artist’s visual presentation will bring forward the ecological interrelationships in this funeral story. Nature, key to the story, will reveal a native identity through the landscape representation.
L’invisible traversée offers includes 16 works of art and one installation, all of which promise to carry visitors through the past, present, and future through the theme of water: fresh and salty at the same time. It will be on display until September 2.
Johanne Bilodeau, graduated from the L’université du Québec in Montreal in Fine Arts (1997) and from l’université de Sherbrooke en Pratiques artistiques actuelles (2015). Her work can be found in public and private collections.
