Cooperative Alentour and Sercovie join forces
Beginning today, Thursday, Sept. 20, seniors living in the Jacques-cartier sector of Sherbrooke will be able to take part in Sercovie's physical activity classes at the Alentour Cooperative. This is the first collaboration between these two Sherbrooke organzations.
"We felt the need to offer certain elements of our program in different areas of the city. This collaboration is just right,” said Rémi Demers, Executive Director of Sercovie.
The courses are offered in addition to an extensive program of workshops, courses, and lectures that are available from the fall to the spring at the Alentour Cooperative. With activities like yoga on chairs and food workshops, Alentour has a mission to contribute to the health and well-being of Sherbrooke residents.
"We have always had compatible missions, but didn’t know how to collaborate. The social economy project of the Collective Entrepreneurship Pole of Estrie allowed our two enterprises to get to know each other better and to initiate this first joint project,” said Réal Desautels, General Manager of the Alentour Cooperative and President of the Estrie Collective Entrepreneurship Pole.
Seniors wishing to join the first cohort can register now on the Sercovie.org website (centre d’actvités, inscription en ligne) or by calling 819565-1066. Classes will be held every Thursday from Sept. 20 to Dec. 6, 2018.
Members of the Alentour Cooperative will receive a $10 discount when registering on presentation of their membership card.
The courses offered include muscle/tone-building, stretching and flexibility, exercises specifically for knees and back and general fitness.
