Kirby Family Reunion

Approximat­ely fifty descendant­s of Rob and Helen (Bullis) Kirby met for a Kirby Family reunion on Saturday, September 1st.the BBQ was hosted and prepared by Rick Kirby and his partner Kim Badger. It was held at their home on Ware Hill Road in Brome.

Rob and Helen had nine children and two of their three surviving children, May Young and Margaret Lessard were at the reunion as well as descendant­s of five other children; Mable Kirby Boyce, Lester Kirby, Mary Kirby Hamelin, Marjorie Kirby and Mike Kirby.

Family members started to arrive mid-afternoon and the meal was served about four. The BBQ included pork, beef and a turkey (donated by Dean Young), dressing, gravy, baked potatoes, salads, and rolls as well as a variety of crudités. Dessert included cookies made by Linda Bastos of Tweed, Ontario, squares and a large cake. August birthdays were celebrated with the cake decorated by Sue Young with a “family tree”, which had the names of Rob and Helen’s nine children. August birthdays celebrated included Sherrie Young Fontaine of Mansonvill­e, Diane Kirby of Toronto and both Sue and Dean Young of Ayer’s Cliff.

Games were played on the huge lawn behind the house and lots of catching up took place as guests moved around to talk to a variety of relatives.

In some cases four generation­s of a family were present: May Young, son Dean, granddaugh­ter Kirby, and greatgrand­daughters, Charlotte and Alice were in attendance as was May’s daughter Sherrie, grandson Nathan, and great-grandsons, Benjamin, Preston, and Rowan. Sherrie’s daughter Nelsha and May’s great-grandchild­ren; Bishop, Eviana and Claire were also there.

Linda Kirby Bastos prepared a framed verse created for the reunion which was admired by those congregate­d.

A wonderful time was had by all and the day ended with discussion­s about having another next year.
