North Hat­ley to hold by-elec­tion de­bate next Wed­nes­day

The North Hat­ley Mu­nic­i­pal Coun­cil will be hold­ing a by-elec­tion on Oc­to­ber 21, 2018, to fill its fifth seat, left va­cant af­ter the res­ig­na­tion of coun­cil­lor Claude Vil­leneuve.

Three can­di­dates, Vin­cent Dionne, Aaron Patella, and Olivia Page are run­ning to fill the po­si­tion.

A ‘meet the can­di­dates’ event has been or­ga­nized next Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 10, at the Univer­sal­ist Union Church in North Hat­ley at 7 p.m. by the Friends of North Hat­ley com­mu­nity group.

The can­di­dates are ex­pected to present their plat­form to the vil­lage’s res­i­dents, an­swer ques­tions, and voice their con­cerns dur­ing Wed­nes­day’s de­bate.

El­i­gi­ble vot­ers can cast their bal­lot in the ad­vance poll on Oc­to­ber 14, by cor­re­spon­dence un­til Oc­to­ber 19, or on vot­ing day on Oc­to­ber 21. To vote, one must be a Cana­dian cit­i­zen who is at least 18 and is ei­ther domi­ciled in North Hat­ley, has been domi­ciled in Québec for at least six months or has owned prop­erty in North Hat­ley for at least a year or is the oc­cu­pant of a busi­ness within North Hat­ley for at least a year.
