Sherbrooke artist holds first solo exhibition
Local painter Sylvain Leblanc, had a warm welcome at the launch of his first ever solo exhibition last Thursday at IRISIUM in downtown Sherbrooke. The show, featuring paintings intersecting ghostly silhouettes and multicolored canoes, runs until Nov. 4.
Leblanc will be present again at IRISIUM this Saturday, Oct. 20 from 2 p.m. 5 p.m. to meet with the public.
Born in Grand-mère, Mauricie, Leblanc studied graphic design at Ahuntsic College and in art at Cégep de Sainte-foy.
Painting for more than 25 years, he draws his creative inspiration from all he encounters in daily life and his relationships to human beings. His abstract figurative style offers contemplative moods and serene imagery. Through his approach, the painter invites the spectator to dive into a world where relationships are sometimes close, and sometimes distant between characters and colorful objects. Leblanc is interested in the complementary dualities that inhabit us and seek to define us. A movement that often tears us and we leads, despite doubts and imperfections, to self-acceptance. In his creations, Leblanc uses a mixed technique on canvas or on panelsof wood where he favors acrylic, lead pencil and transfer images.
Located at 165 Wellington Street North in Sherbrooke, IRISIUM is an environment for creative, visual and performing arts. The space aims to promote artistic development by offering facilities, services and support that will help artists reach their full potential.
