Sursaut swarming Centennial with new dance show
The Sursaut Dance Company is launching a new project called Essaim(the French word for swarm), a production that will be presented from November 8th to 10th at Centennial Theatre in Sherbrooke. With Essaim, the company wanted to bring together, support and acknowledge the region’s upand-coming artists who each have a unique creative process, creating a show that is fresh, modern and diverse within the image of a large group of people all moving together.
According to a company press release, this production will highlight the talent of young choreographers from the region who have worked with the company on numerous occasions and with whom it has developed an artistic affinity. This show is an opportunity for them to develop their creative potential while having access to all the necessary resources.
A blend of contemporary dance, circus arts, theatrical movement and baroque dance, five choreographers invite the audience to discover their worlds through a collection of short choreographies, danced as solos or duos. Audiences will have a unique chance to witness the creative processes of choreographers Stéphanie Brochard, Danika Cormier, Julie Duguay, Simon Durocher Gosselin and Elise Legrand who have come together for this production.
The Sursaut Dance Company, which is situated outside major urban centres, promotes the decentralisation of arts and culture and helps ensure there are artists in all regions. In addition, Artistic Director Francine Châteuavert highlights the importance of this project that contributes to the retention of artists in the area and to the vitality of the local cultural landscape. Essaim is a key project for the development of dance in the Eastern Townships, a testament to the discipline’s vigour, seen also in the fact that it is increasingly deployed in the region. Essaim is a project that encourages a new generation of artists to take flight.
