Art for music’s sake

- By Matthew Mccully

Afundraising exhibition and art sale will take place this coming Sunday and Monday at the Argyll Pavilion (375 rue Argyll) to benefit leisure activities for the residents of the care centre. Ann Marcoux-nutbrown is selling a collection of works painted by her late mother Delourdes Dion-marcoux, who was a resident of Argyll Pavilion for two years.

According to Marcoux-nutbrown, her mother was a member of the Lennoxville Art Group for years; many of her paintings are of familiar buildings and landscapes from the area.

Marcoux explained that while her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, was a resident at Argyll, a family friend used to visit regularly to play music for her.

“Each week, more people came,” Marcoux-nutbrown said, explaining that the music visits became a highlight for the residents and their loved ones.

“It’s not easy to visit on those units,” she explained, but the music was an opportunity for everyone to sit and enjoy together.

“It really built community,” Marcouxnutbrown said.

After her mother passed away, Marcoux-nutbrown and her family continued to subsidize musical visits to the Pavilion, having seen the positive impact they had on the residents.

The art show and sale is intended to continue to support leisure activities at Argyll, Marcoux-nutbrown said.

The exhibition and sale will take place this coming Sunday and Monday (Dec.2-3) between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Argyll Pavilion.
