Dunn and Dostie named Piper athletes of the month
Ella Dunn from the Junior girls basketball team and Felix Antoine Dostie from the Senior boys hockey team have been named the Piper athletes of the month for November at Alexander Galt High School.
Dunn has helped lead her team to a perfect 4-0 record to start the season in the RSEQ Cadet AA league. The young point guard has made a smooth transition jumping up a category despite being bantam age. Her coaches Kassandra Naylor and Charlene Graham said, “she has been a leader on the court for us as she communicates well with her teammates .” The grade eight student has good court vision and distributes the ball to her teammates and gets several assists, to go along with her 8 points per game average. She made Team Estrie for the Quebec games this past summer, but she and her teammates have their eyes set on the RSEQ Championship this year. She will continue to perfect her basketball skills in the ever-popular sports concentration program.
As a three year veteran and captain, Dostie has helped lead the Senior boys hockey team atop the QIHL standings to start the season. They also won their own tournament, 3-2 in overtime for the first time since 2012. In 10 games, the center has accumulated 10 goals and 9 assists and leads the Juvenile AA league in scoring. The 17 year old has collected 3 game winning goals in the process and plays a big role on special teams, including big face offs in crucial moments. The Canton de Hatley resident has improved his hockey skills by being part of the hockey concentration program for the last five years and now he and his teammates have one goal to accomplish in his final season as a Piper; win the QIHL Championship.
