Phoenix makes holiday trades

-

The Sherbrooke Phoenix has made a significant change in its line-up by trading veteran goaltender Brendan Cregan and acquiring youngster Dakota Lund-cornish.

The holiday season in the QMJHL is synonymous with a trading period and since last December 16, the teams have been allowed carry out trades. Until now, the Phoenix had made no change in its line-up.

It is with an eye to the future that the Phoenix organization was forced to make a very difficult decision and divested of goalkeeper Brendan Cregan.

"It was heartbreaking,” said GM Stéphane Julien. “Cregan was much respected in the locker room. He fit very well into the culture of the team and set an example. Sports can be cruel and that's a good example."

Brendan Cregan is a young man of high quality who has served the Phoenix since his arrival in 2017 and his attitude and professionalism certainly marked the team.

The 20-year-old's junior career next takes him to Blainville-boisbriand to protect the nets of the Armada. In exchange, the Phoenix gets a 7th round pick in 2019.

To overcome this loss, Coach Jocelyn Thibault and his team have acquired 18year-old goalkeeper Dakota Lund-cornish. The Halifax-born goaltender had been playing for the Charlottetown Islanders for 2 years as the second goaltender. With his 6' 3 ", 205 lbs, frame, he maintains a goals-against average of 0.880. To get him, the Phoenix gives up a 4th round choice in 2020 and a 9th round pick in 2019.

The trades are part of a well-thought out action plan, the team says.
