GOODHUE, Mar­garet - The fam­ily are thank­ful for shar­ing Mar­garet’s life. She was a kind, gen­tle and giv­ing wife, mother, grand­mother, great-grand­mother and friend. We wish to thank the Rev. Linda Buchanan, Len­noxville United Church, the Rev. Tami Spires and the B.B.C con­gre­ga­tions. We also wish to thank Cass Fu­neral Homes and the Sand Hill Ceme­tery for their help. Spe­cial thanks to the Len­noxville Quil­ters for pro­vid­ing and serv­ing the lunch, and to Rosanne Too­ley for her kind words. Thanks to ev­ery­one who vis­ited, called, sent cards, food, and who do­nated funds in her name. Thanks also to any help not men­tioned. Mar­garet will be sadly missed. She al­ways gave much more than she re­ceived.

TO­DAY’S HIS­TORY: In 1788, Con­necti­cut rat­i­fied the U.S. Con­sti­tu­tion and be­came the fifth U.S. state.

In 1861, Con­fed­er­ates fired upon the steamship Star of the West at the gar­ri­son of Fort Sumter, South Carolina, an in­ci­dent many his­to­ri­ans con­sider the “first shots of the Amer­i­can Civil War.”

In 1945, Gen. Dou­glas Macarthur and the Amer­i­can Sixth Army in­vaded the is­land of Lu­zon in the Philip­pines.

In 2015, the two per­pe­tra­tors of the shoot­ing at the of­fices of Char­lie Hebdo in Paris two days ear­lier were killed by po­lice af­ter a hostage cri­sis.
