SQ warns drivers about hazardous road conditions

-

On Wednesday, Jan. 9, at approximately 11:00 p.m. police officers from the Sûreté du Québec responded to a call regarding a vehicle that had skidded off the road on Highway 55 in the Ste-catherine-de-hatley area. The driver, a 27-year-old Sherbrooke resident, lost control of his vehicle and struck a railing. An investigation is underway to determine if the driver was impaired by alcohol and / or drugs. The police also seized approximately 300 tablets (to be analyzed) that were in his possession.

Around 11:30 p.m. the same night, the police intervened with a truck driver who was traveling on Highway 10, in the St-étienne-de-bolton sector, at a speed that was considered unreasonable considering the road conditions. A statement of offense of $ 108 and 2 demerit points was served to him for not having reduced his speed while the roadway was not completely cleared.

According to article 330 of the Highway Safety Code (CSR), the driver must reduce his speed when visibility conditions are made insufficient because of darkness, fog, rain or precipitation or when the roadway is slippery or partially clear.

With the winter season in full swing, the Sûreté du Québec wishes to remind all drivers of the importance of adapting their driving to the weather and road conditions. By doing so, they reduce the risk of being involved in a road trip or in a potentially fatal collision.
