-

ASherbrooke woman put an end to the violent habits of man she had been dating for two months, turning him to the police.

Olivier Daigle, 29, was arrested on Tuesday when the Sherbrooke Police Service arrested and charged him Wednesday with a profiting from the avails of prostitution, uttering threats, and assault against a woman.

The crimes alleged against Daigle were committed between November 1, 2018 and January 8.

Daigle had been dating the victim, an escort, for about two months. He had moved from Lachine to her home in the downtown Sherbrooke area. The suspect was taking money from the victim under threat and even tried to strangle her. The woman herself contacted the police.

Police advise victims in similar situations not to hesitate to contact them to get out of a situation that is unacceptable.

Daigle appeared in front of Judge Conrad Chapdelaine of the Court of Quebec Thursday and released under severe conditions and on the payment of a $1,000 bond.

Daigle will have to return to the Montreal area and will not be able to contact the alleged victim.

Procedures resume on Jan. 11.
