Grandes-fourches closing this week

-

The City of Sherbrooke is pursuing the construction of the des Grandes-fourches Nord street between King West and Frontenac streets while repairing the pedestrian crossing between Vichy and Viel streets, bringing the number of ongoing construction sites to over 40.

As of Thursday, des Grandes-fourches Street will be completely closed near the Frontenac Street ramp to allow the reparation of the underground infrastructures and the pavement. This second

phase of the Des Grandes-fourches project will last at least eight weeks.

Throughout the project, only local circulation will be allowed between King West and Frontenac Streets. All businesses located in the construction zone will remain accessible.

Directional drilling work is under preparation since last week at the end of Meadow Street, in the La Grenouillère and La Maison du Cinéma parking lots. These interventions will likely last until mid-september. The La Grenouillère parking lot will only be accessible through Frontenac Street and its electrical charging stations will be available as of Wednesday. The Webster parking lot will be accessible via Meadow, Webster, and Albert Streets, while a temporary access for the La Maison du Cinéma parking lot will be installed off Frontenac Street.

Reconstruction work for Saint-lambert Street is underway, leading to the complete closure of the street until Paquin Street. Quebec’s Ministry of Transport will take advantage of the major construction site to replace culverts nearby. Until the end of the week, drivers will have to take a detour by the chemin des Écossais, Highway 55 and Laval Street, or by using chemin Giroux.

Since last Wednesday, Saint-françois North Street has been closed near Lévesque Street because of reconstruction work but will likely reopen Wednesday night. Last week, the construction of a sidewalk on Mûrier Street was completed between Monarque and Milan streets.

The City of Sherbrooke will be investing over $46 M in over 120 construction sites throughout the year to help improve the city’s roadway system.
