he Town of Brome Lake will host its first ever Seniors’ Day on October 1, 2019 at the Community Centre. During this open house day, the public will be able to attend workshops and conferences, as well as visit many kiosks concerning topics related to this indispensable part of the population. The Town is also taking this opportunity to launch its Seniors’ Directory. This initiative is part of the Town’s mission to make its environment more welcoming and accessible to seniors aged 65 and over, as part of the Age-friendly Municipality certification.

In the fall of 2019, Town of Brome Lake will install two bridges in Trestle Cove to increase trail connectivity. Finally, the “Elder” section of the Town’s website will be enhanced.

A more welcoming municipality for seniors

In September 2016, the Town of Brome Lake began the process for obtaining Age-friendly Municipality certification. The culmination of 18 months of work, this certification is a source of pride for Brome Lake, who has done a lot to make the town even more enjoyable for seniors:

• Request for subsidies for the addition of benches on the trails and for the automatic opening of toilet doors at Centre Lac-brome;

• Grant application for the addition of a pavilion in Prouty Park;

• Establishment of a monitoring committee concerning health services;

• Development of a Parks and Trails Master Plan;

• Varied offering of courses and conferences for seniors;

• Establishment of a multifunctional corridor from Victoria Street to Maple Street;

• Creation of an organizing committee for the open house day and activities for Senior’s Day;

• Installation of an intergenerational section in the Town of Brome Lake’s water pad;
