vante officially started our fall program with our Open House a few weeks ago, when we welcomed more than 50 women throughout the day, renewing memberships and catching up on all the news. The Fall Newsletter has been mailed to all our members, so if you haven’t received it, please call us to make sure we have the correct contact information for you.

SOUP, DIY & COFFEE BREAK

Barb will be back at the Lac Brome Community Centre on Monday, October 28th for our monthly Knowlton Coffee Break, with “Positive Aging : Are You ready and willing?” In early adulthood, planning the future is exciting and full of possibilities. But how much thought is put into the future in later adulthood? From 20 to 40; from 60-80. What are our expectations and why are they different? Reassure yourself that you’re on the right track, or be inspired to rethink your lifestyle. Join us for some thought provoking discussion from 1:30-3:30.

Our other regular programming begins with the Collective Kitchen on Thursday, October 3rd for the planning night, then on Wednesday, October 9th for the cooking night, both at 6pm. Sign up to be part of this dynamic group who figure out economical ways for meal planning and preparing. When women come together with a collective intention, magic happens in the kitchen with Nancy & Christine. Maximum registration is 10.

We will be offering homemade soup again at our monthly Soup Café on Thursday, October 17th at noon, followed at 1:30 for a DIY class with Barb, Carol and Norma. We will be helping you create some marvellous fall décor for your entranceway to celebrate the season. Please call ahead to reserve your spot, and we ask for a $2 donation.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Back by popular demand, Avante will be selling our homemade (by staff and board members) tourtières again as a fundraiser this year. $10 for 7” and $15 for 10” pies. Please order by calling the centre at (450)248-0530 before November 8th, to be picked up during the week of November 25th.

Our annual members’ Christmas party needs some fine tuning, so we’re looking for a creative bunch of volunteers who will be willing to plan, prepare and host the members’ Christmas party on Tuesday, December 3. We will provide the guidelines and the space and you let your imaginations run wild. Is this you? Meet with Gayl on Tuesday, October 22 at 9:30 to start spit balling ideas!! We look forward to working with you.

Avante Women’s Centre has the mandate to offer services in English to women in Brome Missisquoi. We host information sessions, workshops, courses and invited guests to help women find the information and tools they need to strengthen and empower their own lives. We network with other community organizations to support their services and act as a liaison between the English population and public services within our communities. In addition to our regular programming, we operate as a drop in centre, so please visit us at our Bedford location at 15 rue du Pont, or call at (450)248-0530.

We can also be seen on our website, www.avantewomenscentre.org, and our Facebook page.
