Fewer seats at the table for this year’s Christmas Bazaar in Lennoxville

- By Gordon Lambie

Big changes are coming to Lennoxville United Church’s annual Christmas Bazaar and Turkey Dinner. Despite being the church’s biggest fundraiser of the year and a highly popular local event, the organizing team is scaling the event back in the name of saving its volunteers.

“We’ve decided that we’re only going to do two sittings instead of three,” said Frankie Noble, explaining that with not enough volunteers available to run two shifts of workers on the supper, the same team of people that arrives to get things ready at 10 a.m. are the ones closing up shop around 10 p.m. “It’s a fact of life that we’re all getting older and fewer.”

Where the turkey dinner has historically held sittings at 4:30, 5:30, and 6:30 p.m. while the bazaar goes on upstairs, this year only the first two sittings will take place, meaning that 150 fewer people will be able to enjoy the meal, which typically sells out.

“Our revenues are going to go down by a third,” Noble said, adding that the church community isn’t quite sure yet how the change will impact the bazaar, which will also be getting an hour shorter, lasting from 3 p.m. until only 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.

The dinner and bazaar are set to take place on Saturday, November 16. Those interested in reserving a place need to speak with Frankie Noble at 819-3489118.
