Culture Days in Stanstead

The theme for the third edition of Stanstead’s Culture Days last weekend, September 27 through 29, was “Encounters.” “Culture is an extraordinary tool to expand our understanding of human experience,” organizer Jean-michel Lamothe wrote in his foreword in the event program.

“Can we wish something better in life than make great encounters, enjoyable and exciting encounters; encounters which make us expand our horizons and live new enriching experiences?”

The weekend began Friday night with a well-attended concert at Ye Olde Blacksmith Shop art gallery in Rock Island featuring musicians playing unique instruments.

Saturday kicked off with a treasure hunt for families throughout the three boroughs of Stanstead.

Phelps Helps was the headquarters for Culture Days, where the public could sample a generous serving of pudding chomeur Saturday. People could also create art of their own with The Ephemeral Art Hives with Art Therapist Nicole Joron at Phelps Helps.

Collage artwork was on display at the Community Centre featuring works by Julis Garnier, Denise Canuel, and others.

The Haskell Library hosted a “danced tale” and a conference on genealogy.

Entry to the Colby-curtis Museum was free Saturday. The public could see the permanent displays and rooms normally closed to the public. The museum offered an interactive handicraft exhibition on wool.

The weekend ended Sunday with an afternoon discussion about developing arts and culture in Stanstead followed by a closing cocktail conversation about the weekend’s events.
