A night of announcements

- Frontier Animal Society

Sharing the details of work at Phelps is something we look forward to every fall. On Monday, Phelps held its second annual general meeting (AGM) at our location in Stanstead. Attendees of the meeting included the board of directors, staff and active members of the organization. Chaired by Christine Cormier from the CUISSS de l’estrie-chus, the meeting provided attendees with an overview of Phelps’ 2018-19 fiscal year.

Catherine Van der Linden, the president and Co-founder of the organization, presented the strides that Phelps has made over the past year. She explained how gaining charitable status has been a game-changer for the organization for its fundraising efforts and she had the opportunity to announce to the attendees the news from a press conference earlier that morning that granted Phelps $60,000 from the Ministry of Education. “This contribution is a recognition of Phelps. We had great endorsements from everyone who spoke at the press conference” she stated at the opening of her message at the AGM.

Katie Lowry, Phelps’ Executive Director, presented many organizational and program highlights, perhaps the two most notable being the 0% drop out rate among the 65 participants in the high school tutoring program and the increase in number of participants. Last year, 202 youth from the Stanstead area took part in one or more of Phelps’ programs! Last but not least, Katie thanked the many partners and collaborators for the key role they play in the sustainability of Phelps.

Phelps Aide Phelps Helps was founded in 2012 and has grown organically from a single high school tutoring program to six unique programs, providing the Stanstead area with free educational and career support.
