Local Nez Rouge campaign nets over $64,000

-

The organizing committee of the 35th edition of Operation Nez Rouge Sherbrooke announced this week that the campaign raised $64,500 to support the University of Sherbrooke’s Vert et Or student athletes.

The campaign gives 100 per cent of the donations made by users of the safe ride service to the recipient organization.

With total donations reaching $64,436 for the 2019 edition, Nez Rouge considers the campaign another success.

Stéphanie Hoarau, coordinator of Opération Nez rouge Sherbrooke for a 6th year, associates the success to the generosity of users.

For the first time, the average donation exceeded $17. Hoarau also credited the tremendous commitment of the business community, and especially to the work done by honorary president, David Farrar.

“The financial results show to what extent Nez Rouge is a popular cause that brings people together, raises awareness and builds solidarity. People recognize this and did not hesitate to be generous by making a donation,” Hoarau concluded.

In statistical terms, 4,997 rides were made in the region between Nov. 29 and Dec. 31, 2019, including 3,746 in Sherbrooke alone, thanks to the contribution of 1,910 volunteers. The local organization still ranks second in Canada in terms of the number of safe rides.

Operation Nez Rouge is one of the main fundraising activities organized by the Corporation études-sports, in collaboration with the Fondation de l’université de Sherbrooke, for the Vert & Or bursary program. The next activity will be the Soirée Vert & Or on March 26, including a tailgate party and a show by comedian Pierre-luc Pomerleau.
