Smith and Barry named Piper athletes of the month

-

Angela Smith and Abdoul Barry have been named the Piper athletes of the month for February at Alexander Galt High School.

Smith was instrumental in helping the Senior girl’s basketball team win the Q.S.S.S.A Macleod English Provincial Championships in Centennial this past month. The shooting forward was the most consistent player in all three wins at both ends of the court. The experience and composure of the sixteen-year-old helped the team overcome moments of adversity throughout the tournament. The graduating forward chipped in with double digit points in every game including critical points in the late stages of each game. Smith and her teammates are now focused on winning the RSEQ AA championships this month before they graduate. They finished in second place during the regular season and will host the Triolet Harfangs

Tuesday, March 17 at 6:00 at Alexander Galt.

Barry brought his game to a whole new level this past month by posting a double double (points and rebounds) in all ten games he played. In doing so the graduating student helped lead his team to a first-place finish in the tough RSEQ AA league. Although his team lost in the final of the Q.S.S.S.A. Visser English Provincial Championships the big post player posed problems for defenders as an inside and outside threat. The sixteen-year-old was named to the tournaments all-star team for stellar play at both ends of the court. Before Barry heads on to Champlain College next year to play for coach Matt Maclean and the Cougars the final order of business will be the RSEQ AA play offs this month in which the Pipers will host the Triolet Harfangs Tuesday, March 17 at 7:30.
