of Quebecers had received a first dose of vaccine, with 2,358,757 shots having been given out of the 2,836,485 doses that have been received in total by the province so far. In the Eastern Townships 120,600 doses had been administer­ed, with just over 600 of those being second doses for those who were vaccinated at the beginning of the campaign.

The Province of Quebec reported 1,344 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total number of people infected to 336,952 and the number of active cases in the province to 13,449.

The total number of deaths linked to the virus increased to 10,802 over the weekend, nine of which were recorded on Sunday.

Hospitaliz­ations across the province increased to 683, with a particular­ly large increase on Saturday. The number of people in intensive care also increased from 159 to 175.

There were 39 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the Eastern Townships on Sunday which, added to those from Friday and Saturday, increased the total number of people who have been infected in the region since the start of the pandemic to 12,692. The total number of active cases in the region dropped by comparison to Thursday, however, settling in at 377.

After a long period without any deaths, five people died for reasons linked to the novel coronaviru­s over the weekend in the Townships. This caused the local total to jump from 324 to 329 deaths.

The total number of people hospitaliz­ed for COVID-19 in the region on Sunday was 20, four of whom were in intensive care.
