The Quebec government is adapting and improving its information technology scholarship programs in an effort to encourage young women to complete their education in fields that are high in demand.

“The more graduates we have in these fields, the more we will be able to continue to distinguish ourselves in these rapidly evolving, cutting-edge sectors that are central to our lives,” said Higher Education Minister Danielle Mccann.

Scholarships will be awarded to female university students enrolled in computer science, computer engineering and construction, as well as electrical, electronic and communications engineering. They will be eligible for a $3,000 scholarship starting next year.

Bursaries information are available for technology students.

Students in Computer Systems Technology, Industrial Electronics, Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Electronics and Science, Computer Science and Mathematics will be eligible for a $3,000 scholarship.

“We cannot say it enough: women have their place in the information technology fields. They have their place, yes, but we must continue to work and support them so that they take it,” said Education Minister Isabelle Charest.

She added that scholarships are an important incentive for students. It will also send a clear signal to female students studying in male-dominated fields, Charest continued. She believes it is important to make sure these young women succeed.

“I am already looking forward to seeing these new cohorts and their ideas at work, which will certainly have a positive impact on the world of tomorrow,” said Charest.
