Lake committees take action

- BCN Staff

L’organisme de bassin versant de la Yamaska (OBV Yamaska) announced the launch of a network of lake committees in its territory. Funding from the Programme de soutien régional aux enjeux de l’eau will allow the technical coordination of six lake committees located in the Yamaska watershed.

The Yamaska watershed includes seven main lakes, namely Brome, Roxton, Waterloo,

Davignon, Bromont, Choinière and Boivin. For the first five lakes, local committees are involved, mainly on a voluntary basis, such as Action Conservation du Bassin Versant du Lac Bromont, omité d’environnement du lac Roxton, Comité de Sauvegarde du Bassin Versant du Lac Davignon et Action lac Waterloo et Renaissance Lac Brome.

According to the press release, despite their hard work, the committees expressed that their lack of resources and sometimes knowledge, are factors limiting the implementation of projects for the protection of their water body.

Geographical proximity and the often very similar biological context between these different lakes makes optimal pooling of experiences, knowledge and resources.

Through this project, a dynamic network of collaboration will ensure cohesion between the lake committees, in particular in order to stimulate consultation, to share the problems experienced, and to study the possibility of launching joint projects.

The project will make available three virtual tools to feed and support the network of committees and will organize five discussion meetings between the committees. The project will also include four training sessions on topics prioritized by the committees.
