Fordyce Women’s Institute very happy with West Brome Sale
On Saturday the large yard sale in West Brome went off without a hitch. The weather was steady and so were the crowds. On the surface it was just like in pre-covid days. There were a few subtle changes, the sale took place in July and no food services were available at the Church of the Ascension, but otherwise it looked like the sales of two years ago.
The Fordyce Women’s Institute had their regular table location close to the church. Over $400 was raised in the six-hour sale. A large part of the proceeds were derived from the generous donation of crafts from the estate of Debbie and Greg Forgarty. Their two daughters, Emily and Erica, approached Norma Sherrer, the president of the Fordyce branch, to ask if the institute would like to have the crafts which their parents used to sell at the Brome Fair for many years. During Covid times, Michilynn Dubeau has been able to raise funds through a table dedicated to the Fordyce branch in her store in Dunham. But other than that, no fund-raising events have occurred. The addition of the arts and crafts brought many customers to the table, With the extra funds raised, it is hoped that extra bursaries will be given to students in our area.
The Women’s Institutes all across Canada support local, provincial, national, and international projects and community groups. In our area
there are branches of the Women’s Institute in Sutton, Dunham, and Cowansville. The Fordyce branch is the one which meets in Cowansville.
