Mike Goudreau Band & Dany Roy present “Christmas Rendezvous”
Local musician Mike Goudreau has just released his 22nd independent work, “Christmas Rendez vous”, a collection of 13 Christmas songs. This album was co-produced and recorded remotely and in studio, with longtime friend, collaborator and saxophonist Dany Roy during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, between September 2020 and November 2021.
The album boasts five original songs composed by Goudreau and five re-arranged Traditional Public Domain Christmas hymns by Roy & Goudreau. A Christmas album would be incomplete without a few favorite classic cover versions as well with three songs. Mike Goudreau sings and plays guitar and Dany Roy plays sax, trumpet and flute as well as creating the lush horn arrangements on this festive Holiday themed recording. For this project, the duo reached out to two of Montreal’s most talented Jazz musicians, Richard Irwin on drums and Dave Watts on upright bass. Special guests include Erich Kory on cello, Toby Wilson on dobro, pedal steel and acoustic guitar and Antoine Fradkin on violin.
An eclectic mix of Swinging Jazz, Jump Blues, Chicago Blues, Americana, Gospel, French Cabaret and a Bossanova styled take on a Christmas classic.! Nine songs are sung in English, three songs sung in French and one is instrumental. From track one to track 13 , it’s a joyous and groovy mix that will leave the listener with a fuzzy Holiday feeling they’ll want to put on repeat!
Despite being recorded in part remotely, the album is of world class audio quality with the help of one of Quebec’s best audio engineers, Dany Legendre, who provided the mixing for this production. Mastering was assured by Steve Corrao from Sage Audio in Nashville, Tennessee.
Since 2007, Goudreau’s songs have continued to be featured in dozens of Hollywood films and network
TV shows, and 2019-2020 was no exception with his original songs placed in films like The Banker (with Samuel Jackson, 2020), the feature film Dark Waters (2019), the CBS TV show Dynasty (2020), and the Christmas TV movie The Happiest Season (Hulu 2020), to name only a few.
