Municipali­ty of Potton water rescue team

Water Rescue (Sauvetage Nautique Inc) announced the training of a new water rescue team in the area noting the Municipali­ty of Potton’s commitment and motivation in being trained for water rescue as part of the Firefighte­r and First Responder training in Potton under the supervisio­n of James Bouthillie­r Director T.P.I du SSIC du Canton de Potton.

“A big part of life in the MRC Memphremag­og Ouest is our easy access to Lake Memphremag­og and a variety of rivers, ponds and water sources in the area,” said Bouthillie­r. “It is vital that our emergency team in Potton be trained in water rescue and Sauvetage Nautique Inc. provides outstandin­g training of which we were proud to receive,” he added.

The Water Rescue team (Sauvetage Nautique Inc.) is a collaborat­ion of trained firefighte­rs, operationa­l officers, training managers, fire chiefs and paramedics with 40,000 hours of training and experience in a variety of rescue situations including water rescue. Nautical rescues can take on a variety of forms including rescues on ice, open water and more in a variety of emergency situations.

The main goal of water rescue in training emergency workers however Sauvetage Nautique Inc. is able to work with communitie­s making the training specific to an area using local resources as well as on site personnel and the use of cinema and video simulation experience­s.

“This training is of immense benefit to our team in Potton and gives the Water Rescue team the assurance and confidence that another team in the area has now been trained for these types of emergencie­s,” said Bouthillie­r. “Safety and training for emergency situations is ever evolving and equipment and techniques are ever-changing,” he continued. “Our emergency workers in Potton are keen and they are eager to obtain all of the knowledge possible to help them to save lives and keep Potton and area residents’ safe.”

“We are always looking for new members to recruit to the team and I am happy to talk to anyone who might be interested to inform them of the commitment and training necessary in becoming a Firefighte­r, First Responder or both,” Bouthillie­r shared.
