The Great Escape
In March 2023, Townshippers’ Association’s Eastern Townships Partners for Health and Social Services Network contributed to a variety of local initiatives intended to support and promote mental health. One of the initiatives we supported was a group activity for secondary 3 students at Richmond Regional High School. The outing was intended to give the student an opportunity to spend time together, and with their teachers, outside of the school environment. It was made possible through a financial contribution from the Public Health Agency of Canada.
The following article was written by Félicia Fredette, one of the students who participated in the Richmond Regional High School activity.
On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, all secondary 3 students from Richmond Regional High School were invited to take part in an escape room field trip.
For those who don’t know, an escape room is an activity in which a certain number of people get locked in a room. You have exactly one hour to solve codes and puzzles in order to escape before the timer ends, hence the term “escape room.” Each room has its own theme making it so much more original and interesting.
Personally, I think it was an extremely fun trip. It was really fascinating to see how everyone works differently under pressure. It was also very amusing to be able to spend time with students and staff members you wouldn’t necessarily talk to outside of school.
It was an activity that focused on collaboration and fellowship. Everyone had their own task to fulfill, and each person’s different skills combined to make it that much more exciting.
Trinity Raymond, a fellow secondary 3 student, states: “overall, I thought it was a really fun experience. I really enjoyed working
with others and seeing how their minds processed things.”
I was in a team with five other people, as well as our music teacher Ms. Pruneau. It went very well, although in the end it got sort of nerve-wracking! I don’t think you realize how stressed you are until you have less than five minutes left on the clock and two more codes to decipher! We unfortunately did not finish in time but, luckily, they were kind enough to leave us a few more minutes and we were able to complete it.
I would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff members who took part in organizing this trip, as well as to Townshippers’ Association for funding this trip. Thanks to them, we got to enjoy a lovely morning outside of school without having to pay a single dime! I would also like to thank Escaparium Sherbrooke, Escaparium Rock Forest, and Extraction Jeux d’évasion for their hospitality.
All in all, I think I can speak on behalf of everyone who participated when I say that this activity was a super enjoyable experience!
