World Autism Month
Local businesses team up for Dixville Foundation fundraiser
This year, the Dixville Foundation celebrates 50 years of service and support to families and individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
To mark World Autism Month, the Foundation is teaming up with local partners Louis Luncheonette Restaurants, Les Vraies Richesses artisan bakery, and new partner this year, Mexi&co. to organize fundraising events to finance the Foundation’s activities.
Serving over 1,400 users (families or individuals with autism spectrum disorders) in the Townships, Dixville Foundation provides financial support in a number of ways, including: - Specialized equipment;
- School preparation and integration program;
- Respite for families;
- Summer camps;
- Pet therapy;
- Electronic equipment that facilitates communication and education;
- Management and support of a Dropin Centre;
So how can locals support the fundraiser?
Throughout the month of April, the participating food establishments will have donation boxes on site as well as a poster featuring a QR code for patrons who would like to make a donation directly to Dixville Foundation.
There are also some very appetizing opportunities to support the fundraiser.
Through to April 8, for every poutine purchased from one of Louis Luncheonette’s three locations in Sherbrooke, $1 will go to the foundation.
Les Vraies Richesses artisan bakery, which has two locations in Sherbrooke (242 King Street West and 11 Léger Street) is selling a special viennoiserie (French pastry) designed specifically with the colours of the Dixville Foundation logo, throughout the month of April. For each sale, $1 will be donated to the foundation. Les Vraies Richesses has been involved in the annual fundraising initiative for five years now.
And new to the scene, Mexi&co, Sherbrooke’s nacho restaurant, has joined the fundraiser, offering the value of any desserts sold through the month of April to the Dixville Foundation.
The owners of the three participating establishments and members of the Dixville Foundation board of directors launched the fundraising campaign last Thursday at Mexi&co. With some sharing personal anecdotes about family members with autism spectrum disorder and others celebrating autistic employees who have overcome obstacles and proven to be valuable members of the workforce, all in attendance applauded the work done by the Dixville Foundation and were proud to support its mission.
