Spring street cleaning underway

- Record Staff

There is likely to be a bit more snow removal, but since it is technically spring, municipalities are starting their street cleaning campaigns.

The Service de l’entretien des infrastructures (SEI) started working this week in Sherbrooke.

The clean-up will take place over a period of approximately five weeks and the operation is divided into three phases: preparatory work, cleaning of main arteries and cleaning of local streets and bicycle networks. Residents can follow the progress of the operation on the interactive map updated daily at sherbrooke.ca/cleaning.

The city suggested residents rake their properties (assuming they are not covered with snow) as soon as possible to be cleared of sand and stones before the municipal crews arrive, and offered the following tips:

o Clear the street and avoid parking on it

o Whether it’s a vehicle, basketball hoops, waste bins, etc., make sure the road is clear before the City’s crews pass by. This facilitates the passage of machinery and avoids having to pass a second time.

o Don’t pile stones in the street

o Piles of stones are harder to pick up and increase the risk of equipment breakage. It’s better to leave stones lying on the ground.

o Do not put stone or sand in waste bins. This practice entails the risk of damage to wheeled bins, as well as damage to vehicles used for waste collection.

During the clean-up, the Promenade du Parc Jacques-cartier will also be closed for a period of 24 hours for cleaning. A notice will be sent out a few days before the closure.
