DCS Garage

-

Were about to be overwhelmed without more help. Carolyn Lemaire, Darren’s wife began taking one day a week off while she worked at BMO to come in to answer phones, make day to day appointments, look after the accounting and update the website.

DCS is very much a family business. The name of the business was therefore given initials D for Darren, C for Carolyn and S for daughter, Shayne.

Carolyn eventually gave up the bank job and is now at the garage full-time. She is very much enjoying the work and is very enthusiastic. She adds a definite flavor to the front office. Every once in a while, she picks up bits of information about the mechanical activity in the back shop. It’s always exciting to learn something new, she says.

There are three lifts in the garage presently and four full-time mechanics. The garage has constant drop-ins and some unplanned emergency work. The fourth mechanic acts as a floater, helping to take care of some of the overload work.

During the ten years DCS has existed, considerable work has been done on the building. The interior and exterior have been completely repainted. A new floor, new desk and new arrangement of the front entrance have provided a larger waiting room. The lighting system is being replaced with new LED lights. The lot surrounding the building has been repaved.

Many local folks will remember Jackson, the onetime garage mascot. As customers came into the garage, the dog would greet them with a tennis ball in his mouth hoping to find someone interested in a game of ball. Sometimes he was successful. He liked to lie on the feet of customers while they waited for their vehicles. Jackson was well-known and well-liked. When he passed away during COVID it was a painful loss to the family and customers.

With the 10th birthdate coming up April 14, I asked Carolyn how they planned to celebrate. She told me the guys will go to a local cabane à sucre, and there will be treats in the waiting area for customers.

Happy 10th birthday to DCS. And here’s to many more! Cheers!!
