The 13th Annual Gastronomic Dinner hosted by the CHUS Foundation witnessed a record turnout of 665 guests, raising an unprecedented $827,902 for health benefits. The event, held April 10 at the Sherbrooke Exhibition Center, merged a playful and burlesque atmosphere, blending a Roaring Twenties cabaret with drag queen performances.

One of the evening’s highlights was the appearance of actor Normand D’amour who briefly reprised his role as Dr. Pascal St-cyr from the TV show STAT, according to an April 11 press release. He invited real healthcare workers to join him on stage, leading to about sixty medical professionals, including doctors and nurses, stepping forward to thank the donors amidst thunderous applause.

Cardiologist Dr. Simon Bérubé spoke about how donations transform patient care, and Aurélie Caronjulien, a former pediatric oncology patient now turned nurse, moved the audience with her inspiring journey.

The funds raised during the evening will be invested by the CHUS Foundation in projects aimed at meeting health needs and continuously improving the care provided to the population of Estrie.

This edition of the Gastronomic Dinner was sponsored by Global Excel, IR Real Estate Agency, and Desjardins, in collaboration with Groupe Custeau, BMO, Construction Gératek, Groupe Lizotte, Innoplex Real Estate, PMML – Team Nick Raymond and Jessika Lahaie, Team Abinader Notaires, Dunton Rainville, and Leprohon.

During the event, the CHUS Foundation and the Vitae Foundation announced their first collaboration aimed at funding a third prosthetic unit at the Argyll Hospital and Care Center in Sherbrooke.

“The missions of our two foundations complement each other,” explained Martin Clermont, the General Manager of the CHUS

Foundation in a press release. He highlighted that the project will address the accommodation needs of an aging clientele with cognitive disorders, who often wait in hospitals for a suitable long-term care facility.
