You might think that leaving your dog’s waste to naturally decompose is better than bagging it up, but you’re wrong. Just like human waste, pet waste is a pollutant that can cause serious environmental damage. The Environmental Protection Agency says that “just 2 to 3 days of droppings from 100 dogs can contribute enough bacteria, nitrogen and phosphorous to temporarily close a bay to swimming.” It’s believed that around 40% of dog owners don’t always clean up after their pets, which adds up to a lot of dog waste. Do the right thing: Bag it up, throw it away and keep your pet’s waste out of our waterways.
