Public meeting on Saugeen Shores recreation centre plans Free Owen Sound YMCA Day for Saugeen Shores residents
information about a potential partnership between the Town of saugeen shores and ymca for a recreation centre in saugeen shores will be discussed at a public meeting Nov. 28 at 7 p.m., in rotary hall at the Port elgin Plex.
The ymca will detail how it operates, and the roles the organization plays in communities it serves.
saugeen shores director of community services Jayne Jagelewski will make a presentation, as well as gaye graham, chief executive officer of the ymca of owen sound grey bruce.
staff will update the market study currently underway in saugeen shores, and the memorandum of understanding between the Town and the ymca. Following the presentation, the public will have an opportunity to ask questions.
a free saugeen shores day at the y is scheduled for Jan. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. so saugeen shores residents have an opportunity to experience the ymca health, Fitness and aquatics centre in owen sound.
via telephone survey, in coming weeks saugeen shores residents will be asked for their opinions on a proposed recreation facility. consultant leisurePlan international incorporated was hired by the town, at a cost of $35,450, to conduct a marketing study to gather opinions from 412 completed questionnaires,considered to be statically objective.
The market study will provide a profile of current fitness, recreation and aquatic activities and programs in a proposal new facility; the potential level of demand for participation in recreation, fitness and aquatic programs and activities; the preferred method of participating - adult or family membership of pa-per-program; the impact of proposed location at the Plex or in cameron Park by the Port elgin high school; preferences for a pre-selected list of features that could include a lap pool, warm-atet pool, gym, track, fitness centre, aerobic studio,. changing rooms, or meeting rooms.
Town staff anticipate the consultant’s finings will be presented to council in the New year.
