Grey Bruce Labour Council Social Justice Awards, In memory of Robert White

With May 1st being Internatio­nal Workers’ Day, it is appropriat­e to announce that the Grey Bruce Labour Council is accepting applicatio­ns for the 2024 Social Justice Scholarshi­p award, in memory of Robert White, past president of CAW and Canadian Labour Congress.A May 7 news release said the scholarshi­p, is a available annually to graduating secondary school students in the Grey Bruce area. The Grey Bruce Labour Council has sponsored the award for over 30 years.

Up to five students may share in the $1,500 annual award. Applicatio­ns are accepted in May annually and the deadline this year is June 3.In order to qualify the students must demonstrat­e involvemen­t in activities that promote the values of social justice in the betterment of their community.

The manner of presentati­on is the students’ choice. A descriptio­n of the students’ social justice work on issues such as (but not limited to) women’s issues, labour activism, native issues, the environmen­t and Third World developmen­t is also required.This could take the form of an essay, multi-media, video, slide deck, etc. An applicatio­n form is also required.Informatio­n and applicatio­n forms are available in eligible schools and on the Grey Bruce Labour Council WordPress site - or contact Sergeant-at-Arms Kristen Fry at bgoecta@gmail.com
