Grey Bruce Labour Council Social Justice Awards, In memory of Robert White
With May 1st being International Workers’ Day, it is appropriate to announce that the Grey Bruce Labour Council is accepting applications for the 2024 Social Justice Scholarship award, in memory of Robert White, past president of CAW and Canadian Labour Congress.A May 7 news release said the scholarship, is a available annually to graduating secondary school students in the Grey Bruce area. The Grey Bruce Labour Council has sponsored the award for over 30 years.
Up to five students may share in the $1,500 annual award. Applications are accepted in May annually and the deadline this year is June 3.In order to qualify the students must demonstrate involvement in activities that promote the values of social justice in the betterment of their community.
The manner of presentation is the students’ choice. A description of the students’ social justice work on issues such as (but not limited to) women’s issues, labour activism, native issues, the environment and Third World development is also required.This could take the form of an essay, multi-media, video, slide deck, etc. An application form is also required.Information and application forms are available in eligible schools and on the Grey Bruce Labour Council WordPress site - or contact Sergeant-at-Arms Kristen Fry at bgoecta@gmail.com
