COMING TO A BASEMENT NEAR YOU
We’ve got hybrid veggies, hybrid cars—and now, hybrid festivals. This year, the globally renowned
Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival is mounting more than 75 action-packed films, big authors and cool guest speakers through both virtual and live in-person formats October 30-November
7. So no matter where you live, the 46th annual iteration will come into your home with its tall tales of remote journeys through wild mountainscapes, ground-breaking expeditions and remarkable achievements told by skiers, adventurers, photographers, authors and filmmakers from around the world.
Among the roster of nail-biting flicks, here are a few Canadian films to look for:
• La Liste: Everything or Nothing by the superstars at Sherpas Cinema and Red Bull Media House. Skiing a list of the Alps’ most iconic descents is challenged by legendary ski mountaineer Sylvain Saudan: “You’ve done it in Switzerland, now you must do it in the world.” And so they do, from the Andes to the Karakoram and beyond, the highs are higher, the lows lower.
• COACH sees professional skiers Lorraine Huber and Hedvig Wessel join forces to take on the Freeride World Tour; the challenges faced by female athletes come at them hard and fast.
