SCANDINAVE SPA RUN: Dynamite TREATMENT: Diable Plunge

-

Of the quartet of double-diamonds that spill off the top of the Expo Quad, Dynamite stands out as offering the steepest sustained pitch of any marked trail in Quebec, according to Tremblant. The fact that this 36.5-degree thriller merges with the longest of its neighbouring double-blacks, the mogul-strewn Expo, means that breathers may be in order partway down, with a frozen waterfall in the trees between the two runs providing an Instagram-worthy spot.

I’ve made it down Dynamite more than once, I reason, so plunging into the Diable is no big deal. I descend the stairs, adjust my boardshorts in the vain hope of gaining some testicular insulation, and dip a toe into the ice-crusted waters.

Swinging in an insulated hammock shortly thereafter—rest being the third and final hydrotherapy step at Scandinave Spa—I congratulate myself. As Meat Loaf so righteously pointed out, two out of three ain’t bad. scandinave.com/mont-tremblant
