Don Port­man

Don Port­man has been teach­ing Nordic ski­ing for close to half a cen­tury. He was on the PSIA Nordic Demo Team for eight years and has taught tele­mark ski­ing through­out the West, in­clud­ing Alaska and at sum­mer tele­mark camps on Mount Hood. Most of his teach­ing, how­ever, has been track ski­ing in Wash­ing­ton State’s Methow Val­ley. A founder of the trail sys­tem there, Port­man owned and op­er­ated a ski school and ski-rental busi­ness in the Methow Val­ley for more than 40 years. He con­tin­ues to be a cer­ti­fi­ca­tion ex­am­iner and clinic leader for PSIANW. A for­mer equip­ment ed­i­tor for Sk­i­trax, Port­man has skied hun­dreds of kilo­me­tres test­ing ski gear. For Port­man, al­most ev­ery win­ter day is a ski day, be it Clas­sic, skate or back­coun­try.
