Julie Me­lan­son stud­ied mar­ket­ing and pub­lic re­la­tions in New Zealand, a coun­try where you can ride bikes all year round. Af­ter she re­turned to Canada, Me­lan­son got into cross-coun­try ski­ing to keep fit dur­ing the win­ter, while con­tin­u­ing to race moun­tain bikes each sum­mer. She be­gan her ca­reer in jour­nal­ism cov­er­ing cy­cling at the Mont-ste-anne MTB World Cup and later made a tran­si­tion to the ski in­dus­try at Sov­er­eign Lake and Sil­ver Star Moun­tain when she re­turned to West­ern Canada. Me­lan­son cov­ered the Masters World Cup back in 2011 at Sov­er­eign Lake, B.C., along with var­i­ous Hay­wood No­ram cross-coun­try-ski races, and worked on brand­ing such projects as “Su­per­camp.”
