WORLD CUP EXPANSION
The 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America will be an historic event as it will be hosted by three nations and will feature an expanded 48 teams. Concacaf president Victor Montagliani sees the tournament as an opportunity for the federation to leave a mark on the world stage. With the tournament still many years away, the qualifying process has yet to be determined, including whether or not the host nations get an automatic spot as well as how many spots are allocated to each federation. There is the potential for Concacaf to have eight nations in the 2026 edition, which would double the region’s current record of four.
