Major League Soccer will have five representatives in the
2019 Concacaf Champions League, and they have learned their fate after the draw took place. There will be no all-MLS tie in the round of 16, and just one MLS v Liga MX matchup, while defending champions Chivas de Guadalajara did not qualify for the 2019 edition. Houston Dynamo will take on Guatemala’s Guastatoya, while last year’s finalists, Toronto FC face Club Atletico Independiente of Panama. Sporting KC go up against Liga MX side Toluca, Atlanta United play Costa Rica’s Herediano and the New York Red Bulls face Club Atletico Pantoja of the Dominican Republic. The Concacaf Champions League will again feature a 16-team knockout tournament beginning in February. The winner will represent Concacaf at the 2019 Club World Cup.
