Back in 1985, a legislation was introduced prohibiting fans from consuming alcohol while attending football matches. Now a number of Football League clubs want the ban to be lifted. Several clubs, including Accrington Stanley, Port Vale, Forest Green Rovers and Sunderland are behind the movement to have the law changed. Many of the clubs believe the law change would provide fans with a better matchday experience and decrease binge drinking before matches and during half time. The change in law would also provide clubs with an increase in revenue. The law was introduced in response to hooliganism in the UK, a problem that no longer exists, at least not at the same scale.
