The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has finally elected a new president, almost a year after its vacancy. Gabriele Gravina, who was the former president of Serie C, ran unopposed and received 97.2 per cent of the votes at the election assembly. He has taken over from Carlo Tavecchio who stepped down following Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup in Russia last summer. The 65-year-old previously stood as one of three candidates in an unsuccessful election in January where none of the contenders received the necessary votes to win.
