According to a BBC reporter as part of the ‘Football Leaks’, Barcelona received two cash payments in relation to fielding Messi, Suarez and Neymar during the 2017 International Champions Cup. Barcelona would only receive full payments of $4 million and $9.75 million for their matches against Manchester United and Real Madrid if Messi, Neymar and Suarez all played at least one half each in both games. Not only were there stipulations for receiving full payments, but there were also punishments for failing to do so. If Messi did not play their pay would be cut $750,000. If Neymar and Suarez didn’t play the pay would be cut $600,000 and $450,000 respectively. If all three failed to play, the deducted fee would have been $2 million. The trio did feature in both games, netting Barcelona close to $14 million in a week.
