YEAH, I’M THE TAXMAN
La Liga president Javier Tebas has criticized the proposed tax hikes in Spain and believes it could damage the league’s global standing. The government is proposing a tax hike which would include a 4% tax increase for incomes over €300,000. This would impact a number of Spain’s highest earners. If passed, Lionel Messi would now need to pay 52% on tax earnings as opposed to 48%. Tebas fears that the tax increases will lead to as many as 20 elite players to depart from La Liga, and as a result they are working on a strategy to mitigate the impact as much as possible.
